Port Lincoln Township

 

Port Lincoln is a small welcoming township of about 14,000 people.  Most conveniences are available to you, including a general hospital and medical centres, chiropractics and physiotherapists, many banks, dental clinics and a speech therapist, accountants and lawyers, taxi's, a police station, fire stations, a large post office, a TAFE College and library, hotels, restaurants, wineries, various supermarkets and shops, and much much more.

 

Come and walk down the main street and enjoy the special feeling of old fashion country acknowledgement and smiles.  Enter the many shops where people welcome you and love your conversation.  Port Lincoln really is the perfect balance between shopping, dining, socialising and breath taking sights.

 

Take an interest and be involved with one of Port Lincoln's primary industries which include cereal crops (including wheat, oats, and barley), rearing of lambs, beef produce, wool production, and aquaculture industries (specialising in tuna, prawns, lobster, abalone and scale fish).

 

 

Pt Lincoln Coastline, Travel and Neighbouring Towns


Port Lincoln is the major service centre to the Eyre Peninsula, and can be reached from Adelaide with a comfortable drive of about 650 km, or take a quick flight from Adelaide with travel time of about 45 minutes. Both Qantas and Rex Airlines service the modern regional airport of Port Lincoln.

 

The Port Lincoln coastline and islands (there are about 40 islands) are home to seals, pelicans, dolphins and many other wildlife. Much of the coastline remains in its natural state. There are a number of towns dotted along the coast to assist you with rest points and amusements while you are touring. Enjoy your touring and adventures without the suffocating crowds. The beauty of Port Lincoln and the Eyre Peninsula is that you have room to breathe in the fresh air and to enjoy the sights, as well as space to enjoy your privacy. 


Port Lincoln is an ideal home town with daily opportunity of exploring neighbouring towns and coastlines. The neighbouring towns are equipped with many adventure activities, shops, golf courses, and tourist interests.  Take a relaxing drive north to North Shields,Tumby Bay, Port Neill or Arno Bay; or venture inland to Cleve, Lock, Tooligie, Yeelanna. Travel northwest and experience Coffin Bay (only 45 km away), Mount Hope, Shering, Elliston and Streaky Bay.  Or be daring and travel further northwest to experience 'dinkum Aussie country atmospheres' of more remote townships. 

 


Recreational Activities

You will be very satisfied with the variety of activities waiting for you in Port Lincoln. Which one will you choose first:

 

* Water sports including: fishing, motor boating, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, rowing, water skiing, diving, windsurfing, snorkeling, swimming, surfing;

* A picnic in one of the many parks or cultured gardens;

* Visit one of the galleries or museums (including maritime and railway museums);

* Cycling, hiking, walking, bird watching, whale watching or simply admiring nature;

* Visit one of the many local national parks and experience: dolphins, seals, sea birds (including Hooded Plovers and Pelicans), Bush Tail Bettongs, Pt Lincoln Ring Necked Parrots, Mallee Fowl, Kangaroos, Emus, flora (including Blue Sun Orchids and Spider Orchids), white sandy beaches, massive wind sculptured sand dunes, limestone cliffs, pounding surfs and much more;

* Site seeing whether coastal or inland;

* 4 wheel driving the many many tracks and locations available;

* Enjoy a day on one of the local/neighbouring town golf courses

* Be daring and swim with the seals, dolphins or tuna, or experience the world famous sharkcage diving.
